James Harvey grew up split between Cleveland, Ohio and Gainesville,
Georgia, and fell in love with story-telling the moment he devoured
RL Stine's Goosebumps as a child. A lifelong zombie fanatic
(thank you, George Romero!), he blends that classic Goosebumps thrill
with his own undead twist in the Formula Zee series -
each tale populated by characters inspired by people he knows.
James first picked up a pen in middle school, crafting short stories
with an imagination that refused to quit. Since then he's told stories
through music, live theater (including teaching street-style hip hop
for over 20 years!), and now a graphic novel format-thanks to his
son's bright idea to retool Dead Best Friend from a novel
into a fully illustrated adventure. When he's not plotting zombie
hijinks, you'll find him dancing, playing golf, or biking around the neighborhood
with his kids.
Above all, James hopes Formula Zee encourages young readers
to embrace responsibility and creativity. Without spelling it out,
Dead Best Friend shows how small acts-caring for a pet,
shouldering a chore-can spark empathy and fuel imagination. His
advice to fellow dreamers? Never quit, instead take a break and then jump
Right back in and tell your story.
